For years Maker’s Mark made only one thing: Maker’s Mark. Bill Samuels, Jr. put his mark on the company by releasing Maker’s 46, and then Rob Samuels made his mark releasing Star Hill Farm Wheat Whiskey. But as far as a constant stream of new products, Maker’s Mark has steered clear of the “throw everything at the wall” approach many have taken in recent years. Now there’s a new product out as a travel exclusive: Maker’s Mark World Wood Expedition One.
“Woods of the World is really exploring terroir through different woods,” says Dr. Blake Layfield, Master Distiller and Head of Innovation and Blending.
This new release is only available through global travel retail, which Layfield believes is a natural fit because exploration is all about trying new things. Maker’s Mark World Wood Expedition 1 is the first Maker’s Mark product to use Japanese Mizunara Oak, which is used in conjuction with French and American Oak, as well.
The “taste vision” was to bring in more fruits but keep the base profile of Maker’s Mark. It is stave finished in the cellar similarly to the Maker’s 46. The staves spent different amounts of time in the barrel.
It’s offered in a 1 liter bottle at 47.5% ABV with an MSRP of $85 starting October 1, 2026.
