The Woodford Reserve Master’s Collection is the Master Distiller’s opportunity to experiment. Past Master’s Collection whiskeys have included Pinot Noir finished, Chardonnay finished, maple wood finished, straight malt, white corn, sweet mash, chocolate malt, and more. This year’s release is super seasoned oak, which is matured in casks made from wood that has been seasoned for five years before being turned into barrels. The result is that the tannins have almost completely leached from the wood, leaving behind an abundance of vanillian and other sweeter barrel notes. The Bourbon is big and bold with lots of notes of baking spices. It is available nationwide starting today.
