Four Roses is releasing its annual limited edition Bourbon.
This release uses three recipes and four ages: OESV 16YO 20%, OESK 14YO 40%, OESV 12YO 35%, and OBSV 25 YO 5%.
The bottle has slightly updated artwork and is emblazoned with the 135th anniversary medallion.
The 16-year OESV adds a great viscosity, honey notes, and floral notes.
The 14-year OESK features a great deal of baking spice like sweet cinnamon and is a bit on the dry side.
The 12-year OESV is highly herbal and fruity with a raisin finish.
The 25-year OBSV is very woody but still has good viscosity. The predominant note is peaches and clove. There’s a drying effect on the late finish.
All the barrels that went into this blend are first, second, and third-tier barrels. Typically, by the time barrels get to this age, the higher-tier barrels of the same run have already been used.
“This is a glimpse into what Four Roses can do with our rare barrels,” says Master Distiller Brent Elliott.
Batched together, this Bourbon has great mouthfeel, brown sugar and honeysuckle on the nose, caramel and spice on the palate with a hint of oatmeal raisin cookies, and a floral and fruity finish.
The Four Roses 135th Anniversary Limited Edition Small Batch Bourbon is 108 proof and MSRP is $199. Approximately 15,060 bottles will be available. Distribution will be across the United States and some places in the EU. Kentucky bottles will be released in September, and some will be available via lottery at the distillery.
